Allwinner H3 Quad-Core CPU – Whatsminer CB2 V8 Control Board Repair

The Allwinner H3 is a quad-core ARM Cortex-A7 processor clocked at 1.296GHz, serving as the main controller on the Whatsminer CB2 V8 control board. It manages hashboard communication, pool connectivity, firmware execution and the miner's web management interface. This is a brand-new original BGA IC — direct replacement for a failed CPU on Whatsminer M20, M20S, M21 and M21S control boards.

When the H3 CPU Fails

A failed Allwinner H3 causes the control board to stop booting — the miner shows no network activity, no web interface and no hashboard communication. Common failure causes include power surge damage, excessive heat (especially without a heatsink or with a failed CPU fan), and solder joint fatigue under thermal cycling. Since the H3 is a BGA device, replacement requires professional rework equipment — a heating station, BGA reballing stencil and hot-air rework station.

Replacement Procedure

Remove the control board. Preheat to 150–180°C, remove the failed H3 with hot air at 350–400°C. Clean the pads with solder wick. Reball the new H3 using the matching BGA stencil, place on the prepared footprint and reflow. After installation, apply a heatsink with thermal paste and ensure DVFS settings are configured correctly in firmware to prevent overheating. Verify normal boot, network connectivity and hashboard detection.
