About the Product

Antminer L7 Hashboard Stencil – Precision Thermal Paste Application & Scraping Template

This Antminer L7 hashboard stencil is a precision-cut template designed for applying and scraping thermal paste on BM1489 ASIC chips. It sits directly over the hashboard, exposing only the chip surfaces while masking all surrounding SMD components — capacitors, resistors, MOSFETs and signal traces — that would otherwise collect excess paste during application. The result is a clean, uniform thermal interface layer on every chip, which directly translates to more consistent temperatures and longer heatsink contact life across the board.

Why Proper Thermal Paste Application Matters on the L7

The Antminer L7 runs dozens of BM1489 Scrypt ASIC chips per hashboard, each generating significant heat under sustained Litecoin and Dogecoin mining load. When thermal paste is applied freehand — without a stencil — the layer thickness varies from chip to chip. Too little paste creates air gaps that cause localised hot spots, leading to chip throttling or premature failure. Too much paste spills onto neighbouring components and can cause short circuits or interfere with rework later. A stencil eliminates both problems by controlling the paste deposit area and thickness mechanically.

How to Use the Stencil

Clean all old thermal paste from the hashboard chips using isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free wipe. Align the stencil over the hashboard so that each window sits centred on its corresponding BM1489 chip — alignment notches on the stencil edges match the board outline. Apply thermal paste across the stencil surface with a straight-edge scraper, pressing firmly to fill each window to a uniform depth. Lift the stencil straight up to avoid smearing, then inspect the board to confirm every chip has an even paste rectangle with no voids. Reinstall the heatsink and torque the mounting screws in a cross pattern to distribute clamping force evenly.

The same stencil can also be used in reverse for scraping off old paste — lay it over the board and use a plastic scraper across the surface to remove bulk paste without touching exposed components. This speeds up the cleaning step significantly when servicing multiple boards in a repair session.
