About the Product

BM1396AB Replacement ASIC Chip – Restore Hash Rate on Antminer S17e & T17e Hashboards

The BM1396AB is the hashing engine at the core of Bitmain's Antminer S17e and T17e generation. When one or more chips fail on a hashboard, the entire chain loses proportional hash rate — and in many cases the board drops offline completely. This brand-new, QC-tested replacement chip allows repair technicians to swap out defective units and bring the board back to full performance without replacing the entire hashboard assembly.

Diagnosing a Failed BM1396 Chip

A single defective BM1396 typically shows up in the miner's kernel log as a missing chip in the ASIC chain — for instance, "chain 1: found 57/60 chips" where three positions return no response. Using a test fixture with scanning capability, you can identify the exact physical location on the board. Before replacing the chip, verify that the surrounding voltage domain is healthy: measure the 0.4 V core supply and the 1.8 V I/O rail at the suspect chip position. A shorted chip will pull its local domain low, which is easily detected with a multimeter.

Replacement Procedure

Apply flux around the failed chip and use a hot-air station at 380–400 °C with a focused nozzle to remove it. Clean the pads with solder wick and inspect under magnification for any lifted pads or bridged traces. Position the new BM1396AB with correct orientation (pin-1 dot aligned to the board silkscreen), apply fresh solder paste or use the appropriate tin stencil, and reflow at the recommended profile. After soldering, run the chip scan again to confirm the new chip registers in the chain, then perform a short hash test to verify it contributes the expected hash rate.

For higher-volume rework, pairing this chip with a dedicated BM1396 tin stencil ensures consistent solder-ball placement and reduces rework time per board from roughly 30 minutes to under 15.
