When You Need This Kit

The Antminer L3 series remains one of the most widely deployed Scrypt miners, and BM1485 chip failures are a common repair scenario. Symptoms include missing chips in the ASIC chain scan, reduced per-board hash rate, or boards that fail to initialise entirely. Once a defective BM1485 has been identified using a test fixture or kernel log analysis, this tin tool kit streamlines the replacement process by ensuring accurate solder-ball placement on the new chip before reflow.

How to Use the Kit

Remove the failed BM1485 from the hashboard using a hot-air station at 380–400 °C. Clean the board pads with flux and solder wick until they are flat and free of residual solder. Place the new BM1485 chip into the fixture holder with the correct pin-1 orientation. Apply solder paste through the stencil plate using a squeegee, filling each aperture evenly. Lift the stencil to reveal uniform solder balls on the BGA pads. Transfer the chip to the board, align it to the silkscreen markings, and reflow at the standard BM1485 profile. After cooling, run a chip scan to confirm the new device registers in the hash chain.

The PVC holder keeps the chip stable during paste application, preventing the slight shifts that cause bridged or missing solder balls. For shops processing multiple L3 boards per day, this consistency directly reduces rework rates and improves first-pass yield.
