BM1491AA Chip Stencil Fixture – Precision Tinning Tool for Antminer L9 Hashboard Repair

This BM1491AA chip stencil fixture is a precision repair tool for tinning and replacing ASIC chips on Antminer L9 hashboards. It combines an aluminium alloy frame with a high-quality steel mesh stencil that holds the chip in exact alignment while solder paste is applied. The anti-static design protects sensitive ASIC dies from electrostatic discharge during handling.

Why Use a Stencil Fixture for BM1491AA Chips

The BM1491AA is a high-density Scrypt ASIC with a fine-pitch BGA pad array. When replacing a failed chip, the new device needs fresh solder bumps on its pads before reflow. Applying solder freehand leads to uneven bump heights — cold joints on some pads, bridges on others. The stencil controls the exact volume and position of paste on every pad simultaneously, producing uniform bumps that reflow cleanly and form reliable connections.

Tinning Procedure

Clean the chip pads with flux and a soldering iron to remove residual solder. Place the chip face-down into the fixture so pads align with stencil openings. Apply solder paste across the stencil with a metal scraper, pressing firmly to fill each opening. Reflow with a hot-air station at 200–220 °C and watch for uniform bumps to form. Let the chip cool, then inspect under magnification — each bump should be round, uniform in height and bridge-free. The chip is ready for placement on the L9 hashboard.
