NSI8221W1D Dual-Channel Digital Isolator – Antminer APW17 PSU Repair
The NSI8221W1D is a dual-channel digital isolator providing 5,000Vrms isolation with data rates up to 150Mbps. It operates from 2.5–5.5V supply, delivers <15ns propagation delay, 250kV/µs CMTI and ±8kV HBM ESD protection across an operating range of -55°C to +125°C. Used in the Antminer APW17 PSU to isolate signal paths between the high-voltage primary side and low-voltage control circuitry.
Why Digital Isolators Fail in PSUs
The isolator sits at the boundary between the primary (mains-referenced) and secondary (output-referenced) sides of the PSU. Voltage transients, ESD events or sustained thermal stress can degrade the isolation barrier. A failed isolator breaks the feedback and control signal path, causing the PSU to lose regulation or shut down entirely.
Replacement Procedure
Disconnect mains and discharge all capacitors. Locate the NSI8221W1D on the isolation boundary — near the optocoupler or feedback transformer area. Desolder, clean pads, install with pin 1 aligned and reflow. Verify normal PSU output regulation under load.
