Whatsminer Thermal Grease KL1040 – 4.0W/mK White Silicone Paste, 1kg Pail

The KL1040 is a white silicone-based thermal grease rated 4.0W/mK, sold in a 1kg pail sized for shop volume. It is the reference material for Whatsminer M30, M31, M32, M50, M53, M60 and M63 series hashboard rebuilds — its viscosity, conductivity and pump-out resistance are matched to the stencil profiles used on those boards. Repair shops standardising on Whatsminer service work use KL1040 as their default chip-to-heatsink interface.

Why KL1040 on Whatsminer Boards

Whatsminer hashboards use a stencil-applied bead pattern with a fixed gap between the chip top and the aluminum heatsink base. KL1040's silicone base flows just enough under clamp pressure to fill that gap fully, then sets to a stable joint that does not pump out under the daily 30-50°C thermal cycling of a mining farm. The 4.0W/mK conductivity is the right pairing for the M30/M50/M60 chip TDPs — high enough to keep junction temps in spec, low enough to avoid over-bleed during clamping.

Application

Clean every chip top and the heatsink mating surface with isopropanol. Use a Whatsminer stencil (model-specific) to dispense an even bead pattern. Lower the heatsink straight down without sliding, then torque the clamping screws in a star pattern to the manufacturer spec. Wipe excess from the board edge before reinstalling. A 1kg pail covers roughly 50-70 Whatsminer hashboards depending on stencil thickness and chip count.
