About the Product

TMP75AIDR Digital Temperature Sensor – Precision Thermal Monitoring for Antminer & IceRiver Hashboards

The TMP75AIDR (also marked 87K or A78JG4) is a board-mount digital temperature sensor in an SOIC-8 package, used on Antminer and IceRiver hashboards to monitor ASIC chip temperatures in real time. With ±3 °C accuracy, a 2.7–5.5 V supply range and a standard I2C / SMBus interface, it provides the thermal feedback the miner firmware needs to manage fan speed, trigger throttling, and initiate protective shutdowns when temperatures exceed safe limits.

Symptoms of a Failed TMP75

A defective temperature sensor can manifest in multiple ways: the miner may report wildly fluctuating temperatures that do not correlate with actual heatsink warmth, the firmware may lock the fans at maximum speed regardless of load, or the board may trigger a false over-temperature shutdown while the intake air is cool. In some cases the I2C bus hangs entirely, preventing the control board from reading any sensors on the chain — which can take the entire hashboard offline.

Replacement Procedure

Locate the TMP75 on the hashboard — it is typically near the edge of the board close to the connector, marked 87K or A78JG4. Apply flux, remove the old sensor with a hot-air station at 280–300 °C, and clean the eight pads with solder wick. Place the new TMP75AIDR with pin-1 aligned to the board dot marking, apply solder paste, and reflow. After reassembly, boot the miner and verify the reported temperature is stable and reads within a few degrees of ambient at idle — confirming healthy I2C communication.

The TMP75's configurable 9-to-12-bit resolution allows the miner firmware to balance measurement granularity against conversion time. Most mining firmware uses the default 9-bit mode for fast polling, but the sensor supports up to 12-bit (0.0625 °C per LSB) for applications requiring finer thermal tracking.
