M24C02-RMN6TP 2Kbit EEPROM Memory IC SOP-8 – ASIC Miner Configuration Storage

The M24C02-RMN6TP (marking 24C02RP) is a 2Kbit (256×8) EEPROM by STMicroelectronics in a SOP-8 package, communicating over a 400kHz I²C bus. It operates from 1.8V to 5.5V with a write cycle time of 5ms and access time of 900ns. On ASIC mining hardware, EEPROMs store hashboard serial numbers, calibration data, chip voltage tables and other configuration parameters that the firmware reads at startup.

Why EEPROM Failures Cause Board Detection Issues

When the miner boots, the control board reads each hashboard's EEPROM over the I²C bus to identify the board model, chip count and operating parameters. A corrupted or failed EEPROM returns invalid data — the firmware cannot recognise the board and either refuses to start hashing or applies incorrect voltage and frequency settings that cause immediate errors. Replacing the EEPROM and reprogramming it with the correct data restores normal board identification and operation.

Replacement Procedure

Remove the hashboard or control board and locate the failed EEPROM — it is a standard 8-pin SOP package near the data connector. Desolder with hot air at 300–320°C, clean pads and install the new M24C02 with pin 1 aligned. After soldering, program the EEPROM with the correct hashboard data using an I²C programmer or the miner's built-in EEPROM write function (if available in the firmware). Reinstall and verify normal startup and board detection.
