The MBR230LSFT1G (marking L3NE) is a 2A / 30V Schottky barrier diode by onsemi in a SOD-123F surface-mount package. It features a forward voltage drop of just 430mV at 2A, fast recovery speed and an operating range of -55°C to +125°C. On the Antminer L7 hashboard, it provides low-loss rectification and reverse-polarity protection in the local power distribution paths feeding the BM1491 ASIC chips.

Why Schottky Diodes Fail on Hashboards

Schottky diodes on hashboards handle continuous current in a high-temperature environment. Over time, repetitive thermal cycling stresses the bond between the die and the lead frame, increasing forward voltage drop and leakage current. A diode that fails open removes rectification from its circuit path, while a shorted diode creates a direct fault that can damage the upstream regulator or fuse. Both modes cause the affected chip group to malfunction.

Replacement Procedure

Remove the hashboard and locate the failed diode — the SOD-123F package is small and marked L3NE. Test with a multimeter in diode mode: a healthy Schottky reads ~0.2–0.4V forward; a short or open confirms failure. Desolder with a fine-tip iron or hot air, clean pads, place the new device observing polarity (cathode band) and reflow. Verify the local rail voltage is correct before reinstalling.
