About the Product

MF72-10D15 NTC Thermistor | Inrush Current Limiter for Bitmain APW3+ Power Supply

The MF72-10D15 NTC thermistor (10Ω cold resistance, 15mm disc) is a negative-temperature-coefficient inrush current limiter used on the AC input stage of the Bitmain APW3+ power supply. At power-on, the cold 10Ω resistance limits the surge current into the bulk capacitors; the thermistor then self-heats and drops to near-zero resistance for normal operation.

Wide operating temperature range -55°C to +200°C, fast-response architecture, high power handling for sustained inrush-limiting duty. The same part also fits inverters, energy-saving lamp ballasts, filament protection circuits, and some heater applications.

When to Replace the MF72-10D15

  • APW3+ PSU won't start — open NTC thermistor blocks the inrush path completely.
  • AC-input fuse blows on power-up — shorted NTC removes inrush protection, surge fries the fuse and possibly the bridge rectifier.
  • Visible damage — cracked or burnt disc body.
  • Multimeter resistance check shows OL (open) or near 0Ω cold — both indicate failure.

FAQ — MF72-10D15 NTC Thermistor

Q: How do I test the NTC?
A: Power off and discharge PSU caps. Measure resistance across the NTC at room temperature: healthy = ~10Ω ±20%. Open (OL) = failed open; near 0Ω = failed short. Visible burn marks or cracking = replace regardless of resistance reading.

Q: Higher / lower resistance variants — do they matter?
A: Yes. Higher cold resistance = more inrush limiting but more power dissipation in steady-state. Lower = less inrush protection. Match the original part's value (10Ω for MF72-10D15) — substituting changes the PSU's inrush profile and can stress bulk caps or the bridge rectifier.

Q: Rework procedure?
A: Through-hole replacement — desolder both leads, install fresh NTC (non-polarized, so either orientation works), trim leads. Be aware: the NTC carries full AC line current, so handle the de-energized PSU board carefully even after discharge.

Q: Bulk pricing?
A: Yes — email contact@lys-sz.com for tray-quantity pricing.
