ADUM1250ARZ Hot-Swap I²C Digital Isolator – Antminer D7 Hashboard
The ADUM1250ARZ is a hot-swap digital isolator used on the Antminer D7 hashboard to fully isolate the I²C bus between the control domain and the hashboard's housekeeping bus. Bidirectional I²C communication over two open-drain channels eliminates the need for separate transmit/receive signals — drop-in replacement for legacy optocoupler-based isolation with better noise immunity and power efficiency.
Built on Analog Devices' iCoupler technology, the isolator handles I²C, SMBus and PMBus traffic at up to 1 MHz, with a 3.0-5.5 V supply / logic range and a 30 mA current sink capability sized for hot-swap operation. Compact SOIC-8 RoHS package, 125 °C operating envelope, automotive qualified.

A: iCoupler uses on-chip transformers instead of LEDs + photo-transistors — better noise immunity, longer service life, and faster signalling. The original Antminer design uses ADUM1250 specifically; substituting an optocoupler doesn't drop in cleanly.
Q: How to test if the isolator is dead?
A: Probe both sides of the I²C bus with a logic analyzer. If side A transitions but side B doesn't (or vice versa), the isolator is degraded. Verify supply rails on both sides before swap.
