B628 HX3608 LN3608 Step-Up Boost Converter Chip – Whatsminer, Ebit & Iceriver Hashboard Repair

The B628 / HX3608 / LN3608 is a 2A high-efficiency step-up DC-DC boost converter in a compact SOT-23-6 package, used on the local power rails of Whatsminer M-series, Ebit E9/E10 and Iceriver KS hashboards. It accepts an input from 2V to 24V, delivers an adjustable output up to 28V, and switches at 1MHz, allowing very small external inductors and capacitors. When this chip fails, the affected domain (often a chip group bias rail or a level-shifting supply) loses voltage and the board reports a missing chip count or refuses to start.

Where the B628 / HX3608 Sits on the Hashboard

On Whatsminer CB-series control boards and on several Ebit and Iceriver hashboards, the B628 / HX3608 / LN3608 generates a small auxiliary rail derived from the main 12V or board-internal voltage. It typically powers gate-driver bias, LDO references, or local 15-18V loops feeding chip series. Failures show up as one rail missing on a multimeter check while the rest of the board reads normal — a classic single-IC-down symptom.

Replacement Procedure

Pre-heat the board to 130-150°C with a hot plate or IR preheater. Remove the failed B628 with hot air at 320-340°C using a small nozzle, taking care not to disturb the surrounding 0402 passives. Clean the pads with flux and braid, place the new chip aligned to pin 1, and reflow at 320°C. After cooling, verify the output voltage matches the rail spec (commonly 15V, 18V or 24V depending on the board) before reinstalling the board in the miner.
