MBRF20100CT 100V 20A Schottky Rectifier – Whatsminer P221B / P222B PSU Repair
The MBRF20100CT is a dual common-cathode Schottky barrier rectifier rated 100V / 20A total (10A per leg), packaged in an ITO-220AB through-hole housing with isolated tab. It is the secondary-side rectifier on Whatsminer P221B and P222B power supplies, where it sits across the 12V output transformer and rectifies the high-frequency switching waveform into clean DC. When this rectifier fails (typically a shorted leg from sustained overcurrent), the PSU loses its 12V rail and the miner stops drawing power.
Why a Schottky for the Secondary
The P221B / P222B switches at high frequency (60-150kHz). At those rates, ordinary silicon rectifiers waste power in the recovery interval; the MBRF20100CT's ~0.7V forward drop and negligible reverse-recovery time keep the secondary-side losses low. The isolated ITO-220AB tab also lets the part bolt directly to a heatsink without an extra mica washer — a real factor when the PSU runs at 80%+ duty for years.
Replacement Procedure
Disconnect the PSU from mains and let the bulk capacitors discharge for 5 minutes. Identify the failed MBRF20100CT — a shorted leg reads ~0Ω anode-to-cathode in both directions on a multimeter. Remove the heatsink screw, desolder the three leads from the secondary-side board, fit the new rectifier with fresh thermal compound on the tab, torque the heatsink screw to factory spec, solder the leads. Bench-test the PSU before returning to the miner.
