SLM346 Isolated Gate Driver IC – Replacement Optodriver for Whatsminer P221 & P222 Power Supplies
The SLM346 is an isolated gate-driver IC in a stretched SO-6 package by Sillumin (Grade 1). It delivers 2.5 A peak output (sink/source) with high-voltage isolation, driving the primary-side MOSFETs in Whatsminer P221B, P221C, P222B and P222C power supplies. The SLM346 ensures fast, clean switching at the frequencies used in these 3,300 W PSU designs, directly affecting efficiency and long-term reliability.
Why Gate Drivers Fail in Mining PSUs
Gate drivers endure millions of switching cycles per hour at high dV/dt rates. Over months of continuous operation, the internal LED emitter degrades and drive strength falls — the MOSFET enters the linear region during each cycle, dissipating excess heat. This can cascade into a MOSFET failure that sends a destructive spike back through the driver. SLM346 failure typically presents as the PSU failing to start, reduced output voltage, or intermittent shutdowns under load.
Replacement Procedure
Disconnect mains and discharge bulk capacitors (primary-side voltages can exceed 400 V DC). Locate the SLM346 near the main transformer — identifiable by its stretched SO-6 footprint. Desolder the six pins, clean pads with solder wick, and align the new device with pin 1 matching the board marking. Solder all pins, reassemble, and power through a variac under progressive load. When replacing the SLM346, always inspect the primary MOSFETs — if the driver failed due to a MOSFET short, both need replacement.
