TPS5430DDAR 3A Step-Down Buck Regulator | DC/DC Converter

The TPS5430DDAR is a 3A step-down buck regulator from the DC/DC converter family — a wide-input-range buck with an integrated high-side N-channel MOSFET (110mΩ). The wide 5.5V to 36V input range and 500kHz fixed switching frequency make it a workhorse part for 12V / 24V industrial power rails, embedded compute boards, and motor-drive auxiliary supplies.

The part delivers up to 95% efficiency at typical load, with ±1% output voltage accuracy across line and load conditions. Built-in protections include over-current (OCP), over-temperature (OTP), under-voltage lockout (UVLO), and short-circuit protection. The SOIC-8 PowerPAD (DDA) package provides the thermal dissipation path needed for the integrated FET at full load.

Q: Does the TPS5430 need an external Schottky diode?
A: Yes — the TPS5430 integrates the high-side MOSFET only. A low-side Schottky rectifier diode is required externally to complete the buck topology. Match the diode's reverse-voltage rating to the input voltage with margin.

Q: How do I set the output voltage?
A: External feedback resistor divider from the output to the VSENSE pin (1.221V reference). TI's datasheet has the standard divider formula and provides example values for common output rails (3.3V, 5V, 12V).
