The 47uF 50V SMD aluminum electrolytic capacitor is a workhorse decoupling part used on Antminer S19, S21 and T21 hashboards as well as Iceriver KS3L boards. It sits on the local 18V/24V boost rails and on the gate-driver bias domains, smoothing transients between switching events. Package is the 6.3×7.7mm V-case SMD electrolytic, rated 105°C for long life under hashboard temperatures.
Failure Symptoms
SMD electrolytics are the first parts to fail under sustained heat: the can bulges, the seal vents brown residue, ESR climbs and the rail collapses under load. On a hashboard this typically shows up as one chip series losing nominal voltage, intermittent hash-rate drops, or boot loops on cold start. Visual inspection plus an ESR/capacitance meter on a desoldered cap quickly confirms whether the part is the cause.
Replacement Procedure
Pre-heat the board to 130-150°C. Remove the failed cap with hot air at 280-300°C, taking care to maintain polarity orientation. Clean the pads with flux and braid. Place the new 47uF/50V cap with the negative stripe matching the board silkscreen. Reflow at 280°C for 8-12 seconds. After cooling, power the board on a bench supply and verify the targeted rail returns to nominal voltage with low ripple.
