BZT52C15 WJ 15V Zener Diode SOD-123 – Antminer L7 Hashboard Circuit Protection

The BZT52C15 (marking WJ) is a 15V surface-mount zener diode in a SOD-123 package rated at 500 mW with ±5 % voltage tolerance. It provides voltage clamping and transient protection on the Antminer L7 hashboard, preventing overvoltage conditions from reaching sensitive ASIC chips and support circuitry. UL 94 V-0 rated, moisture sensitivity level 1, suitable for automated reflow assembly.

Why Zener Diodes Matter on Hashboards

Zener diodes on mining hashboards clamp voltage spikes that occur during power sequencing, hot-swapping or transient load changes. Without functioning clamping, a voltage spike on a supply rail can exceed the absolute maximum rating of the ASIC chips or their supporting regulators, causing permanent damage. A failed zener — either open or shorted — removes this protection or pulls the rail to ground, both of which manifest as chip errors, hash rate loss or board detection failures.

Replacement Procedure

Remove the hashboard and locate the failed BZT52C15 near the protected rail — the SOD-123 package is small (2.7 × 1.6 mm) and marked WJ. Test with a multimeter in diode mode: a good zener reads ~15V in reverse; a short or open reading confirms failure. Desolder with a fine-tip iron, clean pads, place the new component observing polarity (cathode band), and reflow. Verify the rail voltage is within specification before reinstalling.
