About the Product

NTC 5D-15 Power Thermistor 5Ω – Bitmain APW3 PSU Inrush Limiter

The NTC 5D-15 is a 5 Ω cold-resistance, 15 mm diameter power thermistor with a negative temperature coefficient, sized for Bitmain APW3 PSU inrush-current limiting. Wide operating temperature range delivers accurate monitoring + control of switch-on surge events; fast response time + low hysteresis enable efficient thermal management on the AC input side of the PSU.

The NTC sits in the mains input path: cold thermistor presents 5 Ω, capping the inrush surge into the bulk capacitors at switch-on. Once current flows, the thermistor self-heats and resistance drops — removing itself from the loss equation during steady-state operation.

Typical Failure Modes Solved

  • APW3 PSU blows input fuse on power-up — failed-open thermistor allows full inrush surge.
  • Stuck-high resistance — chip not warming under load; PSU runs lossy / hot.
  • Cracked / scorched ceramic body — sustained over-current event damage.
  • Production refurbishment — bulk thermistor stock for APW3 rebuild lines.

FAQ — NTC 5D-15 Thermistor

Q: How to spot a failed inrush thermistor?
A: Visual: cracked or scorched ceramic body. Electrical: open-circuit on the multimeter, or stuck close to cold value after the PSU has been running.

Q: 5D-15 vs 5D-11 — same thing?
A: Both 5 Ω cold resistance, different diameter / current rating. 15 mm handles higher steady-state current. Match the original part footprint for APW3 repair.

Q: Bulk pricing?
A: Yes — email contact@lys-sz.com.
