OSG60R074HZ N-Channel Power MOSFET – Ultra-Low Switching Loss for Mining PSU Repair

The OSG60R074HZ is an enhancement-mode N-channel power MOSFET with an ultra-fast body diode, low figure of merit (FOM) and extremely low switching losses. LLC converters achieve soft-switching to minimise EMI and maximise efficiency. The switching transistors rely on the body diode to carry current during the dead-time interval between half-bridge transitions. A slow body diode causes reverse-recovery spikes that increase losses and heat, accelerating degradation. The OSG60R074HZ's ultra-fast diode minimises reverse-recovery charge, and its low FOM (Rds(on) × Qg) reduces total losses across the operating frequency range.

Replacement Procedure

Disconnect mains and discharge bulk capacitors — primary-side voltages exceed 400 V DC. Locate the failed MOSFET on the primary switching board near the main transformer. These MOSFETs usually operate in pairs as a half-bridge, so inspect both. Remove mounting hardware, desolder leads and clean pads. Install the new OSG60R074HZ with correct pin orientation, apply thermal compound and torque the mounting screw. Power through a variac under progressive load and verify clean output with no oscillation. Always replace both half-bridge MOSFETs as a matched pair if either is suspected.
