PC817C Optocoupler | High-Isolation 4-pin DIP Replacement IC for ASIC Miner Power Supply Repair
The PC817C is a 4-pin DIP phototransistor optocoupler used widely on ASIC miner power supplies for input-to-output isolation, feedback path isolation, and signal transmission across different voltage potentials. A single PC817C typically sits on the feedback loop between the secondary side and the primary controller — when it degrades the PSU loses voltage regulation, gives noisy output, or trips on the slightest load step. Replacing it restores normal regulation.
Internally the PC817C couples an infrared LED (IRED) to a phototransistor through a 5.0 kV (rms) isolation barrier. Collector-emitter voltage rating is 80V, with a current transfer ratio (CTR) of 50% to 600% at IF = 5 mA and VCE = 5V. Available in standard DIP-4 and SMT gull-wing lead forms, with wide lead pitch options for repair flexibility.

- PSU output voltage drifts or oscillates — feedback loop optocoupler degraded, CTR fallen below spec.

Q: Are PC817A, PC817B, PC817C and PC817D interchangeable?
A: They share package and pinout but differ by CTR bin (A is lowest, D is highest). For ASIC PSU feedback the C grade is the most common factory choice — substituting other grades can shift the loop gain and cause regulation instability. Match the grade when possible.
Q: How do I know the PC817C has failed without a scope?
A: Visual inspection (burn, discoloration) catches the obvious cases. For non-visible failures, the PSU symptoms (drift, oscillation, dead-on-load) plus continuity / IRED forward voltage check on a multimeter localize the fault in most cases.
