About the Product

A8038 IC – Whatsminer CB4 V10 Control Board Repair Chip

The A8038 is the IC located at the U5 position on the Whatsminer CB4 V10 (H6) control board. It plays a supporting role in the board's power management or signal-conditioning circuitry — and when it fails, the control board can no longer communicate reliably with the hash boards or may refuse to boot entirely. Replacing this single chip restores the original control board to service, avoiding the cost of a full board swap.

Symptoms of A8038 Failure on the CB4 V10

A failed A8038 typically presents as the control board powering on but failing to initialise properly — the miner may appear on the network briefly then drop offline, or it may cycle through repeated boot attempts without ever reaching the dashboard. In some cases the board powers on normally but intermittently loses communication with one or more hash boards during operation. If you have ruled out the CPU (Allwinner H6), RAM, and NAND flash, the U5 position is the next component to investigate.

Replacement Procedure

Locate the U5 position on the CB4 V10 board — it is on the component side, typically near the power-input section. Remove the failed A8038 with a hot-air station at 300–340 °C, clean the pads with flux and solder wick, and place the new IC observing pin-1 orientation. Reflow and inspect under magnification to ensure clean solder joints with no bridges. After replacement, reconnect the control board to a known-good hash board and PSU, power on, and verify the dashboard loads and all hash boards are detected.

When to Repair vs. Replace the Entire CB4 V10

If the A8038 is the only failed component, a chip-level repair is significantly cheaper and faster than sourcing a complete CB4 V10 board. However, if the board has suffered a major voltage event that damaged multiple ICs (CPU, RAM, and peripheral chips), a full board replacement is the more efficient path. A quick visual inspection under magnification can reveal multiple burn marks or cracked packages that indicate widespread damage beyond the U5 position.
