HR1001A (MPS1745) Enhanced LLC Resonant Controller – Whatsminer PSU Repair
The HR1001A (also marked MPS1745) is an advanced LLC resonant converter controller in a SOIC-16 package, featuring Adaptive Dead Time Adjustment (ADTA), Capacitive Mode Protection (CMP) and an integrated 600V high-side gate driver with bootstrap diode. It operates up to 600kHz with two-level OCP, auto-recovery, over-temperature protection and programmable burst mode at light loads. Used as the primary-side LLC controller in Whatsminer power supplies.
Why LLC Controllers Fail in Mining PSUs
The LLC controller is the brain of the primary-side power conversion stage. It generates the drive signals for the half-bridge MOSFETs at the precise timing and frequency needed for soft-switching. Voltage transients, thermal runaway in the driver stage or capacitive-mode events during severe overload can damage the controller IC. A failed LLC controller causes the PSU to produce no output or oscillate erratically, often accompanied by audible buzzing from the power transformer.
Replacement Procedure
Disconnect mains and discharge all capacitors. Locate the HR1001A on the primary control board — it is a 16-pin SOIC near the gate drive transformer or bootstrap circuit. Desolder, clean pads, install the new IC with pin 1 aligned and reflow. If the controller failure caused MOSFET damage, replace the power MOSFETs as well. Power through a variac under progressive load and verify clean, stable output.
