About the Product

MCP1824T-1802E/OT 1.8V LDO Voltage Regulator | 300mA LDO in SOT-223

The MCP1824T-1802E/OT is a 1.8V fixed-output low-dropout (LDO) linear voltage regulator with 300mA output current capacity. The 1.8V output supplies the standard "1.8V I/O" rail used on many MCUs, FPGA cores, and ASIC peripheral chains. The 2.1V to 6.0V input range means it works directly from 3.3V or 5V upstream rails.

The part offers a tight 0.4% output voltage tolerance, 200mV typical dropout at 300mA, and a 120µA typical supply current (dropping to 0.1µA in shutdown mode via the enable pin). Built-in over-temperature protection guards against thermal runaway.

When to Replace the MCP1824T-1802E/OT

  • 1.8V rail dead while VIN is valid — internal pass element failed open.
  • 1.8V rail drooping under load — LDO can't sustain the 300mA spec.
  • Shutdown control no longer works — EN pin defective.
  • Visible damage on the SOT-223 package.

FAQ — MCP1824T-1802E/OT

Q: What do the suffix codes mean?
A: "1802E" = 1.8V fixed output, extended-temperature grade. "OT" = 5-lead SOT-223 package. The MCP1824 family ships in multiple voltage options (1.8V, 2.5V, 3.0V, 3.3V) and package variants — match the silk mark on your failed chip exactly.

Q: Can I use the 3-lead SOT-223 variant (MCP1824S) instead?
A: No — MCP1824S omits the enable pin, so it's not pin-compatible with the 5-lead MCP1824T. Stick with the 5-lead version unless the PCB silk specifically calls for the S variant.

Q: Rework profile?
A: Hot-air at 320°C with flux paste. SOT-223 has an exposed pad/tab — make sure it reflows with the PCB thermal pad for proper heat dissipation at the 300mA load point.
