NSI6602BD Isolated Dual-Channel Gate Driver IC – Mining PSU Repair
The NSI6602BD is a high-reliability isolated dual-channel gate driver in a SOP16 package, designed to drive power MOSFETs and IGBTs at switching frequencies up to 2MHz. Each output sources 4A and sinks 6A peak current with a propagation delay of just 25ns and 5ns maximum delay matching between channels. The 3,000Vrms isolation barrier and ±150kV/µs common-mode transient immunity make it a reliable replacement for failed gate drivers in mining PSU half-bridge and full-bridge topologies.
Why Gate Drivers Fail in Mining PSUs
Gate driver ICs in mining power supplies operate under continuous thermal stress, driving high-power MOSFETs at elevated frequencies for months without interruption. Voltage transients on the high-side bootstrap supply or common-mode events during switching can punch through the isolation barrier or degrade the output stage. A failed gate driver causes asymmetric or absent drive signals to the power MOSFETs, leading to shoot-through, transformer saturation, or complete PSU shutdown.
Replacement Procedure
Disconnect mains and discharge all capacitors. Locate the NSI6602BD on the driver board adjacent to the gate transformer or directly coupled to the power MOSFET gates. Desolder the SOP16 package, clean pads, install the new IC with pin 1 aligned and reflow. If the driver failure caused MOSFET damage, inspect and replace the power MOSFETs as well before powering up. Test through a variac under progressive load.
