TPS7A1108PDRVR 0.8V LDO Voltage Regulator – Avalon 1446 / 1466 Hashboard Repair
The TPS7A1108PDRVR is a 1A low-dropout linear regulator from Texas Instruments configured for a 0.8V output on Avalon Canaan 1446 and 1466 hashboards. It provides a clean bias rail to the BM ASIC chip clusters and to the on-board driver references. Package is the SON-6 (DRV) 2×2mm with thermal pad. When this LDO fails, the chip series it feeds drops out of the chain and the controller reports an asic-count mismatch.
Where the TPS7A1108 Sits on the Board
On the A1446 and A1466 hashboards, the TPS7A1108 generates a local 0.8V reference derived from the upstream 3.3V rail, feeding analog bias for one chip group. Because it is a low-noise LDO (very low PSRR slip at audio frequencies), it stabilises the chip series without injecting switching noise — important for hash-rate consistency. Failure modes are open output, shorted output, or thermal shutdown after the thermal pad lifts.
Replacement Procedure
Pre-heat the board to 140-150°C. Remove the failed LDO with hot air at 320-340°C using a small precision nozzle — the SON-6 has a thermal pad on the underside, so use enough heat to reflow that center pad. Clean the pads with flux and braid. Place the new chip with pin 1 aligned to the silkscreen mark, reflow at 320°C, and verify by gently pressing each side of the chip after cool-down. Bench-test the 0.8V rail and the chip-count via the controller dashboard before reassembly.
