SVF7N65F 650V N-Channel Power MOSFET – Crypto Miner PSU Repair
The SVF7N65F is a 650V N-channel power MOSFET rated 7A continuous drain current, in a TO-220 through-hole package. It is used on the primary side of small / medium crypto miner PSUs and on auxiliary supply stages of larger PSUs (APW3-class housekeeping, fan controllers, control-board bias rails). Common failure mode is a shorted drain-source from sustained overcurrent or a single overvoltage spike — visible on a multimeter as ~0Ω D-S in both directions and a blown input fuse on next power-on.
Where the SVF7N65F Sits in a Mining PSU
On many compact ASIC PSUs and on auxiliary stages of bigger ones, the SVF7N65F handles primary-side switching at 60-150kHz under a moderate current. It is the right pairing where the design needs the 650V breakdown headroom (mains transients, snubber stress) but the load doesn't justify the higher-current TO-247 parts. As a general-purpose 650V/7A switch, it also drops into many bench-supply repair scenarios.
Replacement Procedure
Disconnect the PSU from mains and bleed the primary bulk capacitors (5 minutes after AC removal, or use a 47kΩ bleed resistor for safety). Desolder the failed SVF7N65F from the heatsink, clean the heatsink contact area and apply fresh thermal compound. Solder the new MOSFET into the board — observe lead orientation, the TO-220 has G-D-S left to right (front view). Torque the heatsink screw to spec (do not overtighten — use the original spring or thermal pad). Verify with a curve tracer or a low-voltage bench test before returning to mains.
