Common PSU failure modes and symptoms

Four symptom patterns that almost always trace back to a failing PSU :

• Miner won't start, all dark — PSU primary side dead. Usually a failed MOSFET (IPW60R037P7, SRC60R090B) or blown input fuse. Component-level repair possible for repair shops ; PSU replacement faster for most operators.
• Fan-only mode, miner boots but no hashrate — secondary side switching failure ; the PSU is alive enough to power the control board but can't deliver hashboard current. Replace the PSU before the hashboards are damaged.
• Voltage fluctuation under load, intermittent shutdown — capacitor ageing on the secondary side, or failed half-bridge controller (NCP1399AC). Symptom is most visible at full load during summer ambient. Replace PSU on rolling fleet maintenance.
• PSU fan stops or makes bearing noise — usually fixable with a small fan replacement (see PSU Cooling Fans collection), but if the fan failure has already caused thermal damage to the PSU board, full PSU replacement is needed.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know which Antminer APW model my miner uses ?
The model is printed on the side of the PSU enclosure (APW3, APW7, APW9, APW11, APW12, APW17). Match the replacement to the same model. APW12 and APW17 are not interchangeable (different connectors, different power profiles). The APW model is also tied to the miner series : S19 = APW12, S21 = APW17, hydro = APW11.

Can I use a higher-wattage PSU as a replacement to be safe ?
No — match the wattage to the miner. Over-spec PSUs may exceed the chassis power rails and damage the control board. They also draw more idle current. Always match the original PSU rating.

What's the lead time on bulk PSU orders ?
Small orders (1-5 units) typically dispatch within a few business days from existing inventory. Larger orders (50+ units, sourcing required) are quoted with a specific timeline when we send the offer. We don't hold huge inventory of every PSU model — fleet-scale orders are sourced to spec.

Do you offer PSU repair services in addition to replacement units ?
We don't operate a PSU repair service. We sell repair-grade components (NCP1399AC controllers, IPW60R037P7 MOSFETs, SRC60R090B, G47N60EF, plus capacitors) for repair shops that perform their own component-level rework. For miners not worth repairing, a full PSU replacement is more economical.

Are the APW17 PSUs you stock the latest generation, or some older variant ?
We stock the current production APW17 variant for Antminer S21 / S19j XP. Specific sub-revisions (with P/N suffix) match the Bitmain factory production at the time of supply. If your miner expects a specific APW17 sub-version, share the P/N and we'll confirm match.
